In the past few weeks California’s Supreme court upheld proposition 8, and New Hampshire via their Governor’s  signature made gay marriage the law, becoming the sixth state to do so. This is the way these things are supposed to be done, if the U.S. Constitution is silent on an issue that means the states decide.
